Willandra Historic House

On land originally granted to John Small in 1794 this fine Georgian style home was built by James Devlin, a local magistrate, in the 1840s. The building is constructed of 18” thick sandstock brickwork set on 2’6” sandstone foundations. The roof is slate, and the interior woodwork is Northern Rivers Red Cedar. The twenty stone pillars on the flag stoned verandah are each turned from a single piece of stone.

The restored building was opened to the public as the home of the Ryde District Historical Society and the Ryde Art Society in September, 1980 and is currently used by the Ryde District Historical Society as a museum as well as for meetings.

Open days are on the third Sunday of every month from March to November, 11am-2pm

We have displays covering different aspects of the Districts’ history with photographs and items on display.

Visitors are welcome and admission is free.
